What is InkPoster?
InkPoster™ is a digital art poster using colour ePaper display technology, designed to present static artwork in full colour with gallery-level quality. The reflective screen delivers a paper-like appearance without backlight or glare, creating the look of printed art rather than a digital screen.
InkPoster™ is battery powered and cordless, with a battery life of up to one year on a single charge, depending on usage. The InkPoster™ App allows wireless content management and provides access to a curated library of thousands of artworks.
InkPoster™ is developed by PocketBook, a Swiss company with decades of experience in ePaper display technology.
-
How is InkPoster™ different from digital photo frames and Art TVs?
Unlike photo frames and Art TVs that rely on backlit LCD or OLED panels, InkPoster™ uses ePaper technology, which:
- Consumes power only when the image is changed
- Requires no backlight and emits no blue light
- Is glare-free and paper-like, resembling traditional printed art rather than a screen
InkPoster™ is also:
- Completely cordless and wireless
- Silent in operation
- Free from heat output
-
Where can InkPoster™ be used?
InkPoster™ can be used in homes, galleries, hotels, offices, restaurants and retail spaces. Its cordless design makes it suitable for locations where visible cabling is undesirable.
The absence of blue light and heat makes InkPoster™ a considered option for living spaces, including bedrooms and children’s rooms.
-
How long does the InkPoster™ battery last?
The battery can last up to one year on a single charge, depending on how often the displayed image is updated.
-
Does InkPoster™ need to stay plugged in?
No. InkPoster™ is battery powered and cordless. Power is only required when changing the displayed image, which is why it can operate for extended periods on a single charge.
-
Does InkPoster™ use a backlight?
No. InkPoster™ does not use a backlight. It relies on reflective ePaper technology, which gives artwork a paper-like appearance similar to traditional prints.
Because there is no backlight, InkPoster™ emits no blue light, produces no heat, and operates silently, including when used in Power-Off mode. -
Where does the artwork on InkPoster™ come from?
InkPoster™ provides access to thousands of curated artworks through the InkPoster™ App, available on the App Store and Google Play. You can also upload and display your own photographs or images.
-
Why do I need the InkPoster™ App?
The InkPoster™ App is essential for using the device. It is required for:
- Initial setup – connecting the InkPoster™ to Wi-Fi and pairing it with your account
- Content management – uploading images, changing artwork and accessing the curated art library
- Device control – managing multiple devices, orientation and settings
- Firmware updates – ensuring your InkPoster™ continues to function correctly
Without the app, the device cannot receive new images or be customised.
-
Can I display my own photos and images?
Yes. You can upload and display your own photographs and images via the InkPoster™ App.
-
Do I need to resize or crop images before uploading?
The InkPoster™ App includes simple adjustment tools that allow you to fit your images to the screen’s aspect ratio, whether the device is set to portrait or landscape orientation.
-
Why does changing artwork take longer than on a TV or tablet?
InkPoster™ uses full-colour ePaper technology. Unlike LCD or OLED displays, which update instantly using light, ePaper works by physically moving charged pigment particles to form an image.
Aligning millions of colour microcapsules accurately takes time. During this process, you may notice brief flickering as the artwork appears. Image updates typically take between 10 and 20 seconds.
-
What does “ink-printing” mean?
Ink-printing refers to the process used by ePaper displays. Each InkPoster™ screen contains millions of microcapsules filled with coloured pigments. When an electric field is applied, these pigments move to the surface to form the image.
This process may appear as flickering during image updates and usually takes 10 to 20 seconds.
-
Why does InkPoster™ Tela cost more than InkPoster™ Affresco?
The price difference reflects the different screen technologies and components used.
The 31.5-inch InkPoster™ Affresco uses E Ink Spectra 6 colour technology. The 28.5-inch InkPoster™ Tela combines E Ink Spectra 6 with Sharp IGZO technology, which enables faster image updates alongside the same vivid colour performance.
-
Can the InkPoster™ battery be replaced by me?
No. The battery is not user-replaceable. If servicing or replacement is required, this must be carried out by authorised service partners.
-
Can InkPoster™ display both colour and black-and-white artwork?
Yes. InkPoster™ supports both full-colour and monochrome images, delivering gallery-quality presentation. The display supports approximately 60,000 colours.
-
Can InkPoster™ be used in portrait and landscape?
Yes. InkPoster™ supports both portrait and landscape modes, depending on how it is mounted.
-
Can I change artwork remotely?
Yes. You can update artwork remotely using the InkPoster™ App:

- Set a sync interval in the app
- Select new artwork while away from the device

-
How do I reset InkPoster™ to factory settings?
To reset InkPoster™:
- Press the power button seven times
- The default screensaver image will appear, confirming the reset
You can also perform a reset via the InkPoster™ App menu, provided you are within Bluetooth range.
-
How does Power-Off mode work?
In Power-Off mode, InkPoster™ continues to display artwork while consuming no power and producing no heat.
To activate Power-Off mode:
- Press and hold the power button for five seconds
- The LED will blink three times and turn off
- The displayed image will remain visible
In this mode, the device is fully powered down and not connected to the app or server. Press the power button once to turn it back on.
-
What is ghosting and how can it be removed?
Ghosting is a common characteristic of ePaper displays, where faint traces of previous images may remain visible.
To reduce ghosting, we recommend changing the displayed artwork at least once every two to three months. If ghosting appears, updating the image seven to ten times will usually remove it. -
When should I use the “Forget InkPoster™” option?
Use this feature if you plan to gift or transfer your InkPoster™ to another person. Without doing so, the new owner will not be able to add the device to their InkPoster™ App account.
-
Can I manage more than one InkPoster™ from the same account?
Yes. You can manage multiple InkPoster™ devices from a single account, allowing you to create a coordinated or personalised art wall.
-
Why are the frame and mount proportions designed this way?
The proportions of the frame and passepartout were designed by PocketBook’s award-winning product design team and inspired by classic gallery framing. The design has received multiple Red Dot Awards and is intended to complement artwork without distraction.
-
Is there a limit to the image resolution I can upload?
There is no fixed maximum resolution. Uploaded images are automatically resized to match the resolution supported by your InkPoster™ model. Higher resolution images may take longer to process before appearing on the screen.
